COERR Kanchanaburi and Livelihood Program Planning with Refugees

   On February 1, 2018, COERR Kanchanaburi organized the Livelihood program planning meeting for 31 refugees, 21 female and 10 male, at COERR’s Integrating Agricultural Demonstration Center in Ban Tham Hin camp, Ratchaburi Province. The meeting focused on discussion about preparation for training course in basic organic farming course for new farmers, intermediate course for those who need further skills and advanced course for ones who want to gain more knowledge or want to become trainers. There will be special courses offered to youth and vulnerable groups.

   There will be annually Livelihood Fair being organized for demonstration and selling refugees’ production for income generation. The Fair provides opportunities for refugees who had fled their war torn homeland and lost all hope of living, to restore their life through learning and training, especially on food produces, by means of vegetables growing and animal raising, and other occupational skills. A number of refugees in COERR program are enthusiastic in participating and benefitting from Livelihood Fair. The meeting continued to brainstorm about creating activities, roles and responsibilities of refugees in contributing to the farm and non-farm production which will be on demonstration and income generation sectors. There are also some competition activities to draw audience’s attention. For animal raising activity, farmers need to strictly care about cleanliness in animals’ stables and coops. Vaccination for poultry are necessary as well.

   The final topic was to raise farmers’ awareness of information skills in theory and practice as COERR’s Integrating Agricultural Demonstration Center in Tham Hin camp is frequently visited.

   In February 2018, there were 19 Livelihood Activity Groups consisting of 14 activity groups of raising fish, frogs, chicken, ducks, pigs and goats; and 5 groups of non-farming activities such as food shop and other initiatives.
